Understanding how you earn, lose, and retain Trophies is the absolute core of Brawl Stars progression. Trophies dictate who you match against, what rewards you unlock, and how your overall account is measured. However, if you are a new player, or a returning player who has not opened the application in a few years, the current Trophy system can be genuinely confusing. The developers have fundamentally overhauled how Trophies function multiple times to fix major progression issues. If you remember the days of your Trophies constantly decaying every few weeks, you will need to completely unlearn those habits. This guide explains exactly how the 2026 Prestige system operates, why the older systems were removed, and how to effectively push your Brawlers today.

The Evolution of the Trophy System

To understand why the current mechanics function the way they do, it helps to see what problems the developers were trying to solve with previous iterations of the game. The system has gone through three distinct phases.

The Pre-2024 Treadmill

In the game’s earlier years, managing Trophies was often a punishing experience for high-level players. Once you pushed a Brawler past a certain threshold, the game subjected you to a regular Trophy Reset.Every few weeks, a significant portion of your hard-earned Trophies would simply vanish. The game converted these lost Trophies into a currency to buy cosmetics. For many players, this felt like a relentless treadmill. You were forced to grind the same Brawlers every single month just to maintain your account's total Trophy count. This system actively discouraged players from playing their favorite Brawlers once they reached a high rank, out of fear of dropping below a threshold before the season ended.

The 2024 Trophy Box Era

In late 2024, the developers implemented a massive rework to fix the feeling of punishment. They expanded the Brawler progression to 50 individual Tiers, with the top Tier—called Max—sitting exactly at 1,000 Trophies.Crucially, they entirely removed seasonal Trophy decay for any Brawler sitting below 1,000 Trophies. For Brawlers pushed above 1,000, all additional Trophies earned were converted into a secondary currency called Season Trophies. At the end of the season, these Season Trophies leveled up a reward crate called the Trophy Box, and the Brawler was reset exactly back to 1,000 Trophies. While this was a vast improvement that protected casual players, it still left a repetitive loop for dedicated players who felt 1,000 Trophies was an artificial hard cap.

The 2026 Prestige System Explained

In February 2026, Brawl Stars permanently eliminated seasonal Trophy resets by introducing the Prestige system. This is the framework you are playing in today. Progression is now split into two distinct phases: reaching the cap, and entering the Prestige tracks.

Reaching 1,000 Trophies

When you unlock a new Brawler, your immediate goal is to reach 1,000 regular Trophies. The system is heavily weighted in your favor during this initial climbing phase to help you learn the character. Below 1,000 Trophies, you earn significantly more Trophies for a victory than you lose for a defeat. During this climb, you hit specific milestone rewards along the Path to Prestige. This includes:250 Trophies: An Icon and Spray.500 Trophies: Brawler Pins.750 Trophies: A 29-Gem Skin (or 1,000 Bling if a skin is not available).1,000 Trophies: The Gold Brawler Title.

Activating Prestige

The moment you reach 1,000 Trophies, the core progression mechanic shifts entirely. Your Brawler reaches Prestige 1. From this point forward, you earn Prestige Trophies instead of regular Trophies. Every subsequent 1,000 Prestige Trophies you earn will increase your Brawler's Prestige level. For example, reaching 2,000 Trophies unlocks Prestige 2 and a Neon Icon, while 3,000 Trophies unlocks Prestige 3 and a Neon Brawler Title. The most important rule in the 2026 system is that Prestige progress is completely permanent. There are no longer any monthly or seasonal Trophy deductions. Furthermore, you cannot drop to a lower Prestige tier once it has been achieved. If you reach Prestige 2 and decide to stop playing that Brawler for six months, they will still safely sit at Prestige 2 when you return.

Matchmaking and Hidden MMR

A logical question regarding the Prestige reset is: If I am earning Prestige Trophies, who exactly am I matching against?

How MMR Replaces Raw Trophies

Alongside the Prestige system, the developers decoupled matchmaking from your raw Trophy count, relying instead on a Hidden Matchmaking Rating (MMR). When you enter the Prestige ranks, the game remembers your skill level and your previous 1,000 Trophy climb. You will strictly be matched against other Prestige players or those with an equivalent hidden MMR, ensuring fair matches. You will not face beginners.

Matchmaking Rules at Higher Prestige

The matchmaking system enforces increasingly strict competitive rules as you climb the Prestige ladder. From Prestige 0 to Prestige 2 (0 to 1,999 Trophies), safety nets are still active. Bot matches will occur if you go on a losing streak, the Underdog system (which grants bonus Trophies for unfair match-ups) still functions, and your Win-streak x10 multiplier remains active. However, once you reach Prestige 2 (2,000+ Trophies), the training wheels come off entirely. Bot matches are completely disabled, the Underdog system is turned off, and standard Win-streak multipliers are removed. Matchmaking becomes a pure test of mechanical skill, drafting, and team coordination.

Practical Pushing Strategies

If your goal is to maximize your account progression efficiently under the current rules, a systematic approach is necessary.

Push Brawlers to 1,000 Evenly

Do not obsess over getting one single Brawler to Prestige 5 while leaving the rest of your roster at zero Trophies. The easiest progression—and the fastest way to accumulate account-wide rewards like Bling and Coins—is the initial climb to 1,000 Trophies. Take advantage of the forgiving win/loss ratios on your low-level Brawlers. Upgrading a balanced roster to Power Level 9 and pushing them all to 1,000 is much more resource-efficient than hyper-focusing on one character.

Leverage Brawler-Specific Win Streaks

Win streaks are tied directly to individual Brawlers, rather than your account as a whole. This is a crucial tactical advantage. If you are struggling to win a high-stakes match with a Prestige-level character, switch to a low-Trophy Brawler. You can easily build a win streak against simpler opponents, but remember that hopping between Brawlers breaks the streak on the previous one. The optimal strategy is to ride a hot streak on a single low-Trophy Brawler until you secure a comfortable rank, banking up to 10 extra Trophies per win.

Accept the Prestige 2 Wall

When you enter Prestige 2, the game will suddenly feel much more difficult. This is a deliberate design choice because safety nets like bot matches and Underdog bonuses disappear at this rank. If you hit a wall where you are losing significantly more than you win, continuing to play that Brawler while frustrated will only damage your hidden MMR. A practical approach is to recognize this wall, step away from that specific Brawler, and focus on pushing a different character through their easier early tiers until you are ready to tackle the competitive brackets again.
